What's the best spreadsheet for Turo hosts to track profit per car?

Updated October 29, 2026 · OrangeCell Tools · Topic: Car Sharing Tools

Short answer

The best spreadsheet for a Turo (or Getaround) host is one that shows net profit per car, not just payouts. It needs three parts: a trips log with your host earnings per trip, an expense log where every cost is tagged to a car (with shared costs split across the fleet), and a per-car P&L that shows utilization, average daily rate and net profit for the same date range. You can build one yourself in Google Sheets for free, or start from a pre-built template.

Why payouts are not profit

Platform earnings pages report what you were paid. They do not know your loan payment, insurance, registration, cleaning time, tires or the bumper repair, so they cannot tell you which car is carrying the fleet and which one is costing you money. That is the job of the spreadsheet.

What to track

The formulas that matter

MetricFormula
Utilizationbooked days ÷ available (listed) days
Average daily rate (ADR)trip price ÷ booked days
Host ADRADR × your host earnings share
RevPAD (revenue per available day)host earnings ÷ available days
Net profit per carhost earnings + reimbursements collected − the car's own costs − its share of shared costs

Split shared costs evenly across cars, or by booked days if your cars are used very differently. Either is fine; pick one and keep it.

Worked example (example numbers, not averages)

One car, a 30-day month: daily rate $68, 65% utilization, so 19.5 booked days and $1,326 of trip revenue. At an example 75% host share, host earnings are $994.50.

Net profit for the month: $994.50 − $827.09 = about $167. At 50% utilization the same car loses a few dollars a month, which is why utilization is the number to watch.

Your options

  1. Build your own in Google Sheets (free). Three tabs (Trips, Expenses, Cars) and a summary tab using SUMIFS by car and date range. Budget an afternoon and some testing.
  2. General bookkeeping software (QuickBooks, Wave and similar). Good for tax-time categories and bank feeds; weak at utilization, ADR and per-car comparisons unless you set up classes or tags carefully.
  3. Host-specific software subscriptions. Some connect to your platform account and automate data entry; compare the monthly cost against your fleet size.
  4. A pre-built spreadsheet template. A one-time purchase you own and can change.

One option in that last group is ours: the OrangeCell Car Rental Host Tracker ($24 on Etsy) has the trips log, expense log, per-car P&L and a 12-month trend. If you only want to check one car's numbers, the Per-Car Profit Calculator ($14) is a quicker tool. Neither is affiliated with Turo or Getaround.

Frequently asked questions

Does Turo show profit per car?

Turo's earnings pages show what you earned from trips. They do not know your own costs (loan, insurance, cleaning, repairs), so net profit per car has to be worked out separately, in a spreadsheet or bookkeeping tool.

Should I count the loan payment or depreciation as the car's cost?

The loan payment shows cash flow; a depreciation estimate ((purchase price − expected resale) ÷ months you will keep it) shows the true cost of a paid-off car. For planning, many hosts look at both and use the more conservative number. Tax depreciation is a separate calculation for your tax professional.

What utilization should a car-sharing car have?

There is no universal target. Work out each car's breakeven utilization (fixed costs ÷ contribution per booked day) and aim comfortably above it. See how many days a month a car needs to be booked to break even.

Can I use these spreadsheets in Google Sheets?

Yes. A well-built .xlsx template using standard formulas (SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH) opens in Google Sheets. The OrangeCell car-sharing files work in Excel 2016 or newer, Excel for Mac, Excel 365 and Google Sheets.
